Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd’s legendary Dark Side of the Moon with the TSO at the Fox Tucson Theatre on Friday, October 11 at 8:00 p.m. Experience classic rock masterpieces including “Money,” “Us and Them,” “Speak to Me/Breathe in the Air” and “Time” with full orchestra. The first half of the program will feature hits from Pink Floyd’s other blockbuster, The Wall, including the No. 1 single, “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2,” “Run Like Hell” and “Comfortably Numb.”
Pink Floyd used some of the most advanced recording techniques of the time, including multi-track recording and tape loops but they did not have an orchestra with them at Abbey Road Studios. Analogue synthesizers were given prominence but the music will now be performed by the full Tucson Symphony Orchestra and the rock ensemble, Jeans n’ Classics. Keitaro Harada, who conducted the TSO Rocks the Fox tributes to Michael Jackson and Queen last year, will again be on the podium.
Jeans n’ Classics founder Peter Brennan, says, “As time goes by, Pink Floyd simply gets better and better. Our audiences adore the music, we love to perform it, and there is no question it has found a very sweet spot with the orchestras.”
Critics agree: “An exciting evening of music from the long-gone days of the rock concept album,” stated the Winnipeg Free Press about a performance with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. “The satisfying whine of the guitar ringing through the hall and the strains of the orchestra made for an agreeable mix. This is rock with substance.”
