I love this program just the way it is. Having the programs divided by type of instrument is a great introduction to the Symphony. This program is high interest, high involvement & high learning!
I loved the way you played your instruments and showed good teamwork. I can’t wait to hear the Symphony Orchestra in May. You make me want to be a better violin player.
Music in the Schools (MIS) sends three of the TSO’s chamber ensembles (String Quintet, Wind Quintet, and Brass and Percussion Ensemble) throughout the season to 36 public, private, parochial, and charter schools, reaching approximately 14,000 students and 300 teachers. The 30-minute interactive performances are geared towards 3rd – 5th grade students. Each ensemble provides a different approach to the annual theme, introduces their instruments, and explores the structure of the music as a language, and its ability to communicate stories and emotions.
In addition to receiving the three ensemble visits, schools participating in the Music in the Schools program attend the full orchestra Young People’s Concert. Participating MIS teachers also receive Making Music Mine curriculum packets to use throughout the school year in preparation for the ensemble visits and the Young People’s Concert. For information and examples of this curriculum, check out the Making Music Mine page.
Young People’s Concerts (YPC) are performed by the full Tucson Symphony Orchestra at the Tucson Convention Center Music Hall in downtown Tucson. Reaching more than 13,000 students and teachers in three days, YPC brings the power of a live symphony orchestra to more than 80 schools (including the 36 MIS schools). Public, private, parochial and charter schools are represented and come from the Tucson metropolitan area as well as outlying districts such as Red Rock, Oracle, Rio Rico, Sells, Sahuarita and Nogales. Participating YPC teachers also receive Making Music Mine curriculum packets to use throughout the school year in preparation for the Young People’s Concert. For more information and examples of this curriculum, please go to the Making Music Mine page.
