Martin Kuuskmann earned a 2017 Grammy® nomination for his recording of Christopher Theofanidis’ Bassoon Concerto which Theofanidis composed for him. Mozart’s first and last symphonies have something in common: in the second movement of his first, the eight-year old makes use of the four note motif that appears in the finale of Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter”.

TSO principals-violin, cello, oboe and bassoon-perform Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante. Asked to compose a piece in the popular style of his student, Ignaz Pleyel, portrayed in the press as his rival, Haydn quipped, “a bloody harmonious war will commence between master and pupil” when he finished his Sinfonia Concertante.
