Martha Sharpe began her musical journey at age four on the piano, adding the horn at age 10 and the organ at age 16. Her talent quickly led to high school accolades, culminating in her appointment as principal horn of the McDonald’s All American High School Band. Martha earned both her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Horn Performance from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where she had the privilege of studying with three master Hornists: William Caballero, Thomas Bacon, and William VerMeulen.
Her professional career began abroad as a member of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville in Spain. Following two successful years in Europe, Martha returned to Arizona, where she has established herself as a prominent freelance musician, recording artist, and soloist. Most recently, Martha was appointed as Horn 4 with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra for the 2026–2027 season.
Throughout her tenure in the Arizona music scene, Martha has held principal horn positions with many local orchestras and is currently principal Horn with Symphony of the Southwest, Phoenix Brass Collective, and Millennial Choirs and Orchestras. Deeply committed to the horn community, she serves as the Arizona Area Representative for the International Horn Society.
Recognized as a logical, categorical thinker, Martha’s organizational expertise is highly valued across the musical community. She serves as a board member for the Phoenix Brass Collective, as well as the assistant orchestra manager for the Arizona Millennial Choirs and Orchestras. A dedicated mother of five and grandmother of four, Martha balances her musical life with family and community leadership, including a notable 20 year tenure on her community HOA board of directors.
