Celebrate the rich and beautiful musical traditions of Día de los Muertos in this collaboration between the TSO and the Tucson International Mariachi Conference. Internationally recognized Tlen Huicani, the most iconic representatives of the beautiful Son Jarocho, join the TSO, and special guests Mariachi Aztlán de Pueblo High School and Grupo Folklórico Los Guerreros de Pueblo High School for a one-night-only concert filled with emotion and excitement.
For over five decades, Tlen Huicani has captivated audiences around the world with the soul and spirit of Son Jarocho—the heart of Veracruz’s coastal sound. Founded in 1973 at the Universidad Veracruzana under the direction of Master Alberto de la Rosa, this iconic ensemble has become one of Mexico’s most enduring and beloved musical ambassadors.
With their shimmering harp melodies, intricate requinto lines, and passionate vocal harmonies, Tlen Huicani (whose name means “the singers” in Náhuatl) invite audiences into a living tradition—one that connects centuries of indigenous, African, Spanish, and Mexican influence through rhythm, poetry, and song.
Tlen Huicani’s artistry transcends the stage; they are cultural educators, storytellers, and bridge-builders between generations and nations. From the plazas of Veracruz to the great theaters of the world, their performances are celebrations of identity, resilience, and joy.
Their extensive discography and countless international tours—spanning the Americas, Europe, and Asia—have earned them recognition as global icons of Mexican music. Yet their essence remains deeply rooted in the fandango, where music, dance, and community become one.
Today, Tlen Huicani continues to innovate while preserving tradition—reminding the world that the sound of Veracruz is timeless, and that its heartbeat still beats in every verse, every harp string, and every son they perform.
