José Luis Gómez welcomes Alexis Cárdenas (violin), Jorge Glem (the Venezuelan ukulele-like cuatro venezolano) and Elvis Martínez (the Mexican guitar-like bajo) for the third installment of ¡Fiesta Latina! celebrating the music of Venezuela. Each soloist is a powerful artist in their own right, with a distinctive mission to share the folk traditions of their homeland with the world. Together, they bring a fiery blend of technical mastery and classical elements to the folk music of their native Venezuela.
The three join forces for Romero’s Bach-inspired Fuga con Pajarillo. Cárdenas plays Ravel’s dazzling Tzigane, and with Glem, Gonzalo Grau’s breathless Rapsodia latina. These concerts conclude with Sibelius’ bracing Fifth Symphony.
