Jessica Cottis, conductor
Joyce Yang, piano
Gabriela Lena Frank: Andean Elegy
Jonathan Leshnoff: Piano Concerto (Co-commission by Tucson Symphony Orchestra)
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade
José’s Take:
I like how Rimsky-Korsakov described Scheherazade: “a kaleidoscope of fairy-tale images” from The 1,001 Nights. And we’re proud that TSO had a part in creating the Leshnoff Concerto, which was written especially for one of Tucson’s favorite pianists, Joyce Yang.
