The Third Symphony of Jean Sibelius recalls a Mozartian intimacy then adds a bristling urgency. Richard Strauss wrote his first horn concerto at the age of 19 for his father. He would wait 60 years before composing another, this one mature and melancholy, and expertly performed by the TSO’s former principal Nelson Ricardo Yovera Perez.
