by Tucson Symphony

Have a beer, Boca Ball and taco before hearing Beethoven’s Famous Fifth Symphony  Performed by the TSO

(Tucson, AZ)─The Tucson Symphony Orchestra is partnering with BOCA Tacos y Tequila to celebrate Beethoven’s birthday.  The party will be at the popular Fourth Ave. eatery from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6 before the TSO performs Beethoven’s  Fifth Symphony from its famous first four notes to its stunning conclusion at Tucson Music Hall at 7:30 p.m. that evening.

Enjoy dinner at one of Tucson’s landmark taco shops. BOCA’s gourmet tacos have been featured on the Food Network, the Travel Channel and in The New York Times. For $15, party goers will get a beer, a boca ball (breaded and deep fried mashed potatoes), and a taco.  Chef and owner Maria Mazon says she “thought it would be a good way to bring together taco lovers and music lovers while helping the TSO.” A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the TSO.

Beethoven was born in December 1770, but his exact birth date has never been a sure thing among historians. What is a sure thing is the enduring popularity of his Symphony No. 5. American orchestras have performed it more than any other in the repertory. It has likewise become a part of popular culture. Once the BBC’s signature theme during World War II—the music’s distinctive rhythm was interpreted as the Morse code for “V for Victory”—the symphony was showcased in Disney’s Fantasia 2000 film and even adapted to become a disco hit on the 1977 Saturday Night Fever soundtrack as “A Fifth of Beethoven.” In addition to the Beethoven Symphony, the program will also feature Van Cliburn Award-winning pianist Sean Chen performing Camille Saint-Saëns’ popular Piano Concerto No. 2.

Ticket buyers and current ticket holders can purchase tickets to BOCA and Beethoven simply by adding $15 to the cost of the ticket. Tickets are available online at www.tucsonsymphony.org, at the Tucson Symphony Orchestra Box Office, 2175 N. Sixth Avenue or by phone at 520.882.8585.  TSO Box Office hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless otherwise indicated.
