Rosie Garcia

Tucson native Rosie P. Garcia is a long time educator and a community advocate. With a Master of Education, Rosie taught at Sunnyside High School and Pima Community College until her retirement in 2014.

Among the organizations where she has played a leadership role: Marist College Restoration, Co-Chair; League of United Latin American Citizens, State Vice President; Teatro Carmen, Vice President; Borderlands Theater Board member; Los Descendientes del Presidio de Tucson, Vice President; Tucson’s Birthday Celebration, Chairperson; Hispanic Council, Co-Chair, Diocese of Tucson, Samaritan Fund, Executive Board, Diocese of Tucson. She was Co-Chair of an activist organization that led to the reform of the Arizona Constitution.

Among some of Rosie’s recognitions are U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, in Appreciation for Outstanding Community Service and Citizenship Achievement Award; UA Hispanic Alumni Distinguished Citizen Award for Outstanding Service; LULAC Community Service Award; Tucson’s Birthday Celebration Chairperson Award; and Certificate of Appreciation for Meeting the Challenges of the 1989 Bishop’s Appeal, Diocese of Tucson.

Currently, Rosie serves on the following Boards: Opera Guild of Southern Arizona, President; UA Fred Fox School of Music Advisory Board; UA Mexican American Studies Advisory Board; AARP Advisory Council; Kino Heritage Society, President; Diocese of Tucson and Padre Kino Vocation Ministry, President.
