We are still accepting registrations for Music in Schools, but space is extremely limited – we we will make every attempt to accommodate your school.
Music in the Schools (MIS) sends three of the TSO’s chamber ensembles (String Quintet, Wind Quintet, and Brass and Percussion Ensemble) throughout the school year to 30+ public, private, parochial, and charter schools, reaching approximately 6,500 students and teachers. The 30-minute interactive performances are geared toward 3rd–5th grade students, but are appropriate for K-6. Each ensemble provides a different approach to the annual theme, introduces their instruments, and explores the structure of the music as a language and its ability to communicate stories and emotions.
Music in Schools programs are interactive and personal, allowing students to meet musicians, ask questions, and see and experience music close-up without the perceived barriers presented by the traditional concert stage.
Each school that registers for Music in the Schools also receives 200 free tickets to Young Peoples Concert Field Trip in May!
Contact the TSO education team with any questions.
To prepare for ensemble visits, participating MIS teachers will receive Digital Instrument Cards and a Teacher Guide with suggested activities to use throughout the school year that are specially designed to fit into limited class time and complement required Arizona teaching standards.
Teacher Guide coming soon.
