Originally from Vero Beach, Florida, Chris Herman joined the Tucson Symphony percussion section in 2017. He has appeared with many other orchestras, including the National Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, the Florida Orchestra, Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, and the Phoenix Symphony. In addition, he has performed with the St. Pete Opera, Opera Tampa, and Opera Orlando. Chris made his solo debut with the TSO in 2019 when he performed Emmanuel Sejourne’s Gotan Concerto for marimba quartet.
Herman studied at the University of Maryland with Eric Shin and Jauvon Gilliam. He also attended the University of South Florida, where he studied with Robert McCormick. He currently resides in Tucson with his wife and two pets. He enjoys hiking, playing golf, and cooking.
