Dr. Kim Hankins (they/she) is a violist, violinist, arranger, amateur composer, and yoga teacher. As a soloist and chamber musician, Dr. Hankins has performed throughout the United States, Germany, Luxembourg, and Iceland.
Before joining the Tucson Symphony Orchestra as a violist at the start of 2023, Dr. Hankins served as Co-Artistic Director of the Tetra String Quartet, a string quartet and non-profit organization dedicated to serving the community through music and providing chamber music education. They performed as the violist of the quartet and created an after-school chamber music program for youth, the first of its kind in Arizona. During their undergraduate years in Tucson, Dr. Hankins was a Sectional Coach for viola and low strings at Tucson Junior Strings.
Dr. Hankins holds a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Arizona, a Performance Diploma in Solo Repertoire and a Master of Music from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Arizona State University. They have been featured as a guest presenter at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute, Arizona State University, the Tetra Chamber Music Institute, the Arizona ViolAcademy, and the American Viola Society (2018, 2020, 2024). In March 2025, they were a featured artist, performing viola and cello duos and a piece for viola and tape at the OME New Music Festival.
