Catch Your Principal Timpanist, Alana Wiesing, on “Timpani Hang”

Alana Wiesing will be featured on this Friday, June 19’s edition of the “Timpani Hang,” hosted by Jeremy Epp, Principal Timpanist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. This Juneteenth, learn more about Alana Wiesing and her journey to becoming Principal Timpanist at your Tucson Symphony Orchestra.

“[Alana] is one of the few women to currently occupy a principal timpani position, and one of an even smaller number of black women to have ever won an orchestral timpani or percussion job.

We’ll discuss her road to her job and explore many of the issues around representation in the orchestra world: how it affects what students perceive as possible, their education, and ultimately their ability to be successful.”
