For this Maestro Monday, we asked your conductor, José Luis, who his favorite composers are…

“A difficult question to answer, but since we are still on the 250th anniversary of his birth, I would say that Beethoven will always be one of those composers that keep me engaged in studying his music non-stop.
“I have always felt driven by the lyricism of melodies and phrasing by the Austrian composer Franz Schubert.
“Of course, I have a lot of love for the music of the post-romantic era, Mahler, Bruckner, and Strauss.
“As for the 20th century and off the track of Germanic composers, I always include in my program music of those that I feel equally passionate, such as Carl Nielsen, Alexander Glazunov, the Czech composers Bohuslav Martinů and Leoš Janáček.”
